The ESER team collects drinking
water samples semi-annually from boundary and distant communities, and surface
water samples from the Snake River at Idaho Falls and Bliss. Each water sample
collected is submitted to the Idaho State University Environmental
Assessment Laboratory for gross analyses for alpha and beta emitting
radionuclides. Samples are also analyzed for tritium using
liquid scintillation.
The U.S.
Geological Survey has monitored ground and surface water at the INL since 1949. The USGS also conducts
special studies of the groundwater of the Snake River Plain.
A summary of these studies is provided in the Annual
Site Environmental Report for the INL.
