Radioecology and Ecology Research

Current radioecology research is related to impacts of radionuclide spread through a variety of transports, including waterfowl and other bird species, burrowing ant intrusion into waste caps.  Data obtained from this research is utilized to determine if current strategies to mitigate transfer of contaminants from wildlife and vegetation are successful.

Ongoing ecological research work includes:

  • Endangered Species Trends: Population trends of endangered, threatened, and sensitive species of wildlife.
  • Elk Management: Elk movement patterns, depredation damage to surrounding farm crops, and management practices to control elk depredation and elk habitat
  • Waste Water Impacts on Vegetation:  The ecological impacts of irrigating native vegetation with sewage wastewater.
