Mission:

The Idaho Environmental Education Association is dedicated and committed to the advancement of environmental education in Idaho. We provide, support and promote education about the environment to clarify our understanding of the natural world and our roles in it.

What is IdEEA:
The Idaho Environmental Education Association (IdEEA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1982. IdEEA has about 150 members and is governed by a 12-person, all-volunteer board of directors. An executive director manages organizational activities. IdEEA's approach is cooperative, non-confrontational, and nonpartisan.

Core Services:

  • Providing a resource and referral service for environmental educators

  • Acting as the state affiliate for North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE)

  • Hosting the Idaho Environmental Education Conference

  • Working with Idaho’s elected leaders and state agencies to encourage their support of environmental education

  • Providing professional development opportunities for educators of all backgrounds.

  • Granting scholarships to educators for professional development

2007 – 2010 Strategic Directives & Objectives

Core Services – 1st Tier Priorities

  • Serve as state affiliate for NAAEE.

    • Attend NAAEE conference and provide/present report/program at the Idaho conference - ED.

    • Send additional Idaho representative annually - Board.

  • Provide resource and referral service for environmental educators.

    • Complete website transfer and management plan - ED.

    • Evaluate useful functionality of current on-line clearinghouse. Develop and implement strategies to increase use/utilization - ED.

  • Host Idaho Environmental Education Summit/Conference.

    • Increase successive year’s attendance by region - ED

    • Increase revenue through sustainable partnerships and fees - ED.

  • Provide professional development opportunities for formal as well as non-formal environmental educators.

    • Provide and/or sponsor one to three professional development opportunities annually that break even or add net income - ED.

Core Services – 2nd Tier Priorities

  • Advocate for support of environmental education among state agencies and leaders.

    • Meet annually with minimum of 5 leaders from the legislature, the State Department of Education and/or Rangeland or Forest Commissioners - ED.

  • Provide scholarships for educators for professional development.

    • Develop guidelines for awarding scholarships - Board.

    • Award scholarship beyond those for IdEEA Conference by 2010 - Board.

Infrastructure Priorities

  • Funding

    • Increase revenue from membership dues/fees - Board.

    • Increase revenue from contributions (add one giving opportunity) - Board.

    • Explore and implement fee for service opportunities, i.e., advertising revenue - ED.

  • Evaluation & Planning

    • Conduct one board meeting annually specific to evaluation and planning - Board.

  • Board Development

    • All board members actively and consistently participate in meetings and ad hoc committee work - Board.

  • Membership Development

    • Recruit minimum of 36 new members for total of 180 active members by 2010 - ED.

    • Retain 75% of current contributors/members - ED.

  • Program/Service Promotion
    A. Communicate services through membership development activities/materials, newsletter & summit conferences. Majority of active members aware of programs/services - ED.
